How to Install H4/9003 LED Headlight Bulbs

The H4 halogen headlight bulb is very common in cars and trucks. Here I have a Honda Civic headlight and on the back is a spring clip that holds the 9003/H4 LED Headlight Bulbs in place. There is also a Toyota Tundra headlight with the same H4 bulb with a dust cover and spring clip.

Demonstration for Installing LED Bulbs

For the installation demonstration, we will use the H4 LED bulb from GTR Lighting. Installation is basically the same as how the collar mounts and how everything goes together. If you tried to insert the bulb exactly as your original halogen bulb came out, it will actually fit in place, but the heatsink will be too big and the spring clamp can’t get around. So these bulbs are designed so that the collar slides out. First, you put the socket on, just like fitting an original halogen bulb, then the spring clip is put on and your bulb can now slide into place. Now everything is wide open, so you can’t forget to install the dust cover. The dust cover should be able to go back to how it came off and fit between the mounting sleeve and the bulb. SuncentAuto provides a complete guide for installation so the customers might not face any inconvenience.

Same Way of Installation

Generally speaking, all the different LED bulbs are installed the same way, but there are a few variations. The Morimoto 2 Stroke does not need to be separated from the fan and the heatsink is so small that it can be installed just like the original H4 bulb.

The SV4 installs the same way as the GTR Lighting bulb. Simply remove the mountain collar, install it first, then insert the bulb back into the Xenon Depot Extreme LED H4 twists and the collar will slide out. This is a bulb that I don’t really know where it came from but it works just the same and here’s another example. As you can see, it doesn’t matter what type of H4 bulb you have, they all work pretty much the same.

Now that you have the bulb secured in the housing, you need to make sure it is properly aligned. The original halogen bulb has a shield over one of the filaments and when installed this centre tab faces up and this shield is open upwards. So when you install the bulbs it should work the same. Your centre tab points up, the shield is on top, and the LEDs point horizontally left and right. If your bulbs are crooked, you’ll get a weird beam pattern.
